SHADOW SHADOW

Year 4 in Minehead First School sat by a white board with a light shining on them and on the white board was a piece of sugar paper.  Miss Jones drew our shadow then we had to cut it out and draw around it on a black piece of sugar paper.  Now we have to guess WHO'S WHO?

Year 4

Year 4 have been learning about light.  They have been doing shadows of their faces.  It is very hard.

WHY BE A TEACHER?

(in Minehead First School...)

The reasons given by these teachers were:

Mrs. Snowdon - "It's not a dull job."

Mrs. Handley - "No two days are ever the same."

Miss Jones - "It's rewarding to help children to attain their full potential."

Mr. Snowdon - "I like to see children learning and growing up."

IF YOU WERE NOT A TEACHER WHAT WOULD YOU BE?

Mrs. Snowdon - "I would have worked with animals."

Mr. Snowdon - "I would have liked to have been a footballer."

Miss Jones - "I would have liked to write books."

Mrs. Handley - "I would have liked to have been a journalist."

Yesterday, 18th February, Mr. Dean was on Quay West radio saying that if the one way system (in Minehead) goes ahead he would lose lots of business as he would not be able to drive in to his workshop in Friday Street.  Lots of people are complaining.

On Tuesday it is my birthday.  I will be 9 years old.  I would like a skipping rope.

YEAR 3

Year 3 science is about electricity.  They have been building circuits using batteries as their source of electricity.  Today they have been building switches to turn lights on and off.  In art they are sketching shells using 2B pencils and charcoal.  Charlie has made a wonderful shell out of plasticine.  In the autumn term they were learning about the Tudors and in the summer term they will be learning about Minehead harbour.

At Minehead First School

Mrs Rookwood said she has been teaching here for 11 years,  Mrs. Robinson for 1 year, Mrs Bird 13 years, Miss Clear 1 year, Mrs. Snowdon 12 years, Mr. Snowdon did not reply and the Lollipop man (Mr. Pearce) has been here about 11 years.  Mrs. Handley admitted she had been here over twenty years but said she had not been here as long as some other members of staff?

WHAT IT WAS LIKE IN MINEHEAD.

Mr. Luxton is now a year 3 teacher but he came to the school in the olden days.  He said it was scary because all the teachers were nuns and on Friday he could remember there was always the smell of fish.  There was a football, a huge football. He said "I can remember trying to kick it and it wouldn't move."

MIXED YEAR CLASS

Mrs. Snowdon's class are making books about Famous People and on Tuesday 14th January for their homework they were asked to cut pictures out of newspapers for the covers of their books.

BUTLINS

Butlins is a very good holiday park.  It has got lots of rides for the children to play on like Sky Master, the Dragon Rollercoaster, the Waltzers and a lot more.  It has also got Noddy and Big Ears Playtown, Pinewood Studios, the cinema and indoor and outdoor play areas called Fox Kids.

by Sally

On Saturday I went to Butlins.  I went in to the soft play and on the wooden fort.  I went on the rides and on an electric car.  I had a burger for tea and had an ET toy to play with.  Next time I want to go on the bouncy slide and trampoline.

JOKEs

(Q) Why did the tomato blush?

(A) Because he saw the salad dressing!

(Q) Why did the skeleton run up the tree?

(A) Because the dog was after his bones!

The lonely soul

Under the bridge with its creaky beams,

and a little spot where sunlight gleams,

through rushes, reeds and into the town,

the lonely soul comes tumbling down.

Nibbling and gnawing at the living rook,

scattering stones like a dog with a bone,

swamping the peace with watery talk,

endlessly busy and always alone,

on his cliffy banks, ferns spring

ivy strangled oak trees frown,

birds sing to the spring king,

as the lonely soul comes tumbling down.
